Dr. Lawrence Model
He is dedicated to continuing to serve and treat people with substance abuse disorders at Serene Beginnings as the Medical Director.
After several years providing medical care in a therapeutic community addiction treatment program, he became the medical director for a large correctional facility in New York City. There he supported a new program to begin substance abuse treatment during incarceration as a means of breaking the cycle of untreated mental health issues, chemical dependency, and arrest. Board certification in addiction medicine provided confirmation of his understanding and skills, and he is one of the few family physicians to achieve this. In addition to his tremendous work with the substance abuse population, he operated a family medical practice for over 30 years.
Dr. Model received his undergraduate education at Rutgers where he earned varsity letters on the fencing team and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Medical school followed at George Washington University, and a family medicine residency in Syracuse, NY. For two years, Doctor Model served in the National Health Service Corp as the only doctor in a rural county in South Dakota. He is active in community service, volunteering for the Caridad Center, a local Community Emergency Response Team, the Palm Beach County Sheriff, and the Air Force Auxiliary.
